Our Commitment

Hope Foundation is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all children who participate in our programs and activities. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and exploitation in any form.

Policy Statement

This Child Safety Policy applies to all staff, volunteers, board members, contractors, partners, and visitors who have contact with children through Hope Foundation's programs and activities.

Definitions

Child

For the purposes of this policy, a child is defined as any person under the age of 18 years.

Child Abuse

Child abuse includes, but is not limited to:

  • Physical abuse: Causing physical harm or injury
  • Emotional abuse: Causing psychological or emotional harm
  • Sexual abuse: Any sexual activity with a child
  • Neglect: Failure to provide necessary care and protection
  • Exploitation: Using a child for profit, labor, or gratification

Prevention Measures

Recruitment and Screening

All individuals working with children must undergo:

  • Background checks and reference verification
  • Criminal record checks where legally permissible
  • Review of employment history
  • In-person interviews

Training and Education

All staff and volunteers receive mandatory training on:

  • Child safeguarding principles
  • Recognizing signs of abuse
  • Appropriate behavior and boundaries
  • Reporting procedures
  • Cultural sensitivity

Code of Conduct

Required Behaviors

All individuals working with children must:

  • Treat children with respect and dignity
  • Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries
  • Ensure transparency in all interactions
  • Promote children's rights and participation
  • Be a positive role model

Prohibited Behaviors

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Physical punishment or discipline
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Verbal abuse, humiliation, or degradation
  • Discrimination of any kind
  • Developing inappropriate relationships
  • Being alone with a child in an isolated area
  • Sharing sleeping accommodations with children
  • Using children for personal services

Photography and Media

Consent Requirements

  • Written consent must be obtained before photographing or filming children
  • Children's full names and identifying information should not be published without consent
  • Images must be respectful and not place children at risk
  • Children should be appropriately dressed in all images

Image Use Guidelines

  • Images should focus on activities rather than individual children
  • Avoid images that could be misused or misinterpreted
  • Store images securely and delete when no longer needed

Reporting Procedures

Reporting Concerns

Any person who suspects or becomes aware of child abuse must report it immediately. Reports can be made to:

  • Direct supervisor or program manager

What to Report

Report any:

  • Suspected or witnessed abuse
  • Disclosure by a child
  • Violation of this policy
  • Concerning behavior or situations

Confidentiality

All reports will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality. Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis to protect the child and conduct investigations.

Investigation and Response

Investigation Process

Upon receiving a report, Hope Foundation will:

  • Ensure the immediate safety of the child
  • Report to appropriate authorities as required by law
  • Conduct an internal investigation
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action
  • Provide support to affected children and families

Disciplinary Actions

Violations of this policy may result in:

  • Immediate suspension or termination
  • Removal from programs involving children
  • Legal action where appropriate
  • Reporting to relevant authorities

Partnerships and Contractors

All partner organizations and contractors working with children must:

  • Have their own child safeguarding policies
  • Comply with Hope Foundation's Child Safety Policy
  • Undergo the same screening and training requirements

Monitoring and Review

This policy will be:

  • Reviewed annually and updated as needed
  • Monitored through regular program evaluations
  • Assessed through feedback from children, families, and staff

Children's Rights

We recognize and uphold children's rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, including:

  • Right to protection from harm
  • Right to participate and be heard
  • Right to non-discrimination
  • Right to development and education
